Condition: Good VF, Coin at auction is much better than picture. This coin has decent dark brown surfaces with some mild roughness which is not a significant distraction. Both sides have an excellent strike and excellent detail. There is a bit of softness in the strike at the obverse bottom corresponding with the reverse top. Great portrait of Hadrian and nice detail on Fortuna. Not much wear, just a bit of flatness on the high points. This coin is an excellent example of this issue with a choice bust of Hadrian.

Valuation: Why Valuation? This coin has a great portrait. Compare it with CNG 60, lot 1686, where a nice VF was estimated at $1,000. Lot 1686 had some weakness in the strike, similar to the coin at auction. See also Triton IV, lot 546, where an EF was estimated at $1,000. Lot 546 had its patina stripped and was starting to retone. Lot 546 also had some roughness on the neck. Lot 546 also had some weakness in the strike, especially in the head of the reverse figure. The most current price information is found in Vagi, Coinage of the Roman Empire, where it is valued at $50-75 in fine, $150-200 in VF and $1,000-1,500 in choice VF. This coin is a bargain at the reserve, you could spend hundreds more and not get much better.
